Why An Active Congress Is Essential To The Wellbeing of Liberland!

In my ongoing interview with Liberland’s President he has informed me that the Liberland Congress is quite inactive except for a one person he named. I will now expand upon the reasons why the Liberland MUST be active NOW and for the foreseeable future.

Reason 1: We are still in the critical founding period.

Liberland still has yet to formally ratify a constitution, establish formal diplomatic relations with a UN member state, ratify any international treaties, nor has the Congress to the best of my knowledge passed a law besides the citizenship law that has been approved via referendum, no formal annual budget has been passed, no appointments of ambassadors, no declaration of neutrality nor the approval of the Declaration of Independence that was made by the President on April 13, 2015, among other items that are critically necessary to further improve the well being of our small country that is still struggling to achieve international recognition. Even these declarations and appointments of ambassadors are merely symbolic in nature as in the case of ambassadors they would be considered at large and not attached to any country in particular these actions would strengthen de jure claims of fulfilling the Montevideo Convention by establishing or at least attempting to establish international relations AND a stable government. If the Congress is apathetic to its job, it can then be interpreted that the people of Liberland are also lazy and don’t care, I don’t think that’s the case though.

Reason 2: Too much needs to be done to sit on your hands.

This one ties into reason 1 but emphasizes that there are so many things that need to be done that unless you have your head buried in the sand, why on earth would you not pick up the baton and do something. Even if a Congress person advocated for doing only one thing during their term, that would be more than what the current Congress is doing.

Reason 3: Why run if you plan to do nothing? A common libertarian phrase is that, “Libertarians silently plan to take over the world and then leave you alone.” That phrase does not imply that libertarians will NOT do anything though and in the case of the Liberland Congress they haven’t done anything yet so how can they leave you alone if they haven’t even established themselves as the ones who would leave you alone. For this to be true the guardrails would have already had to have been established beforehand so one knows if those I power will actually leave them alone in the first place. This again refers back to the international community looking at Liberland as a novelty, because our own legislature hasn’t gotten itself together yet. This reminds in a strange way of the stripper controversy during the 2016 US Libertarian Convention in why the “mainstream” America sees libertarians as nothing more than rank amateurs trying to do professional things, we must look and be professionally presentable to the international community if Liberland is to be taken seriously.

Reason 4: Why can’t easy actionable items be undertaken?

This goes to the low hanging fruit analogy, during the last congressional forum the Tom Walls who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs made plainly clear what the easy actionable items that the Liberland Congress needed to take action on, in particular regarding the realm of foreign affairs of which he is the minister responsible of and yet no action has of yet been taken. The minister of justice who is also a member of the Congress has to the best of my knowledge tried in vain to get action to be taken on certain measures regarding laws that he has tried to get the Congress to take action on. From my experience this means that no quorum has been reached in some time and if that is the case, shame on those Congress people who have not attended those meetings. Because of their lack of attendance they are contributing to the lack of progress that Liberland needs in order to grow.

Reason 5: More passionate discussions should be done.

I feel like a lone voice in this arena, doing my task as a journalist trying my best to prop up the “fourth estate” for the community of Liberland . I have been involved in several different meetings of various kinds and one thing I find lacking and this may be a bit of a bias since I am an American, but I don’t see any passion in the congressional forums I have observed and I will go so far as to say that a couple of meetings I have sat in on were quite awkward and a bit I wouldn’t say hostile but they were certainly not collegial though. We cannot act in this way the rest of the world functions like this Liberland is supposed to be different.

Conclusion

While I have no vote in the elections of Liberland as I am not a citizen, I will use my pulpit here at Liberland Press to make sure these issues are highlighted upon so as to ensure that these issues can be resolved, which I know they can be if everyone is on the same page. Coldness and lies towards one another is not something I will tolerate, if I were to be picked as the moderator at the next congressional “forum” I would ask vey pointed questions towards all of the candidates and ask them different questions based on what they are bringing to the table and if I ever do eventually receive Liberland citizenship and if no progress had thus been made by then, I would strongly consider running myself so that action can be made for Liberland to forward instead of becoming stagnated into apathy and petty politics.
