On Wednesday I had the pleasure of interviewing Liberland Vice President Wozniak and Foreign Minister Walls, along with Liberland Aid Foundation President Kathleen Alcorn, Vice President Michael Alwood and Michael Wait.
In a world where humanitarian aid organizations are seen as nothing more than corporate cronyism slush funds, there is one organization that flips everything you thought you knew about humanitarian aid is done on its head. Just as the country the Free Republic of Liberland is changing the way how governments operate so is the Liberland Aid Foundation.
The Liberland Aid Foundation unlike governmental “foreign aid” has not taken a single cent of it’s funding from any government, instead 100% of it’s donations comes directly from donors and all of the funding is 100% traceable with the foundation utilizing the Liberland Blockchain. With minimal overhead costs since there are no paid employees for the foundation virtually every cent donated to the foundation goes straight towards the foundation’s beneficiaries.
As a 501c3 nonprofit organization registered in the US State of Illinois with key Liberland figures such as Vice President Bogie Wozniak, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Walls, along with a few other key people backing the foundation’s board of directors. Kathleen Alcorn serves as the President and Michael Alwood as Vice President/Treasurer are the ones that run the day to day operations of the foundation. Because the foundation accepts not only fiat currency but also bitcoin along other cryptocurrencies this enables them to take a new radical approach to the funding of beneficiaries. For example the Children’s Hospital in El Salvador received bitcoin from the Liberland Aid Foundation instead of fiat currency, this also enables a new level of transparency that is inherent with cryptocurrencies and to build the trust that is needed to bolster new donors to come forward.
Another unique aspect of the Liberland Aid Foundation to me is the targeted approach in which initiatives. A perfect example is the donation of a 2023 E420 Ford Super Duty Ambulance to the Fundación Visión Pais which specializes in humanitarian aid in Dominican Republic, a very specific targeted need that was critical to community since the nearest ambulance until the donation was a 2 hour drive away. Other humanitarian organizations take the big broad brush stroke to the problem but may not actually solve the problem that a community may actually have, this was extremely evident after the 2010 Haitian earthquake in which the entire country needed aid but not every community had the same exact need. Yet the larger humanitarian organizations in some ways just rubber stamped aid to many places without truly addressing the needs that the local community may have needed.
But the places I have included only include a small portion of what and where the foundation has providing assistance to. The countries that have received help from the foundation include Brazil, Cambodia, Croatia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ghana, Haiti, Liberia, Malawi, Peru, Republic of Artsakh, Serbia, Somaliland, Uganda and the United States.
In summary one can observe that the Liberland Aid Foundation operates in much the same way as the Free Republic of Liberland does but instead of innovating the way a national government operates they are innovating new ways to approach humanitarian aid.
