Time history about the Czech President Petr Pavel and the First Lady

„I would be very interested in an opinion and an explanation as to why someone who opposes communism supports Petr Pavel and his wife. The facts regarding Petr Pavel’s pre-1989 studies are evident from archival documents: he enrolled in a postgraduate course at the Intelligence Administration of the General Staff (ZS GŠ), an institution that was methodologically, ideologically, and operationally subordinate to the Soviet military intelligence service, the GRU. As an elite, selective school for regime cadres, it was subject to strict supervision by Soviet advisors who guaranteed that the training and objectives of the intelligence service fully served the interests of Moscow and the Warsaw Pact.
To be accepted, Petr Pavel (code name “Pávek”) had to pass multi-stage vetting processes to prove his loyalty to the socialist system and the alliance with the USSR. The very concept of the training, the textbooks, and the definition of the “main enemy” (which was NATO) were directly derived from Soviet models. From the perspective of the military structure at the time, this system was built as an integral part of the Soviet power block, and anyone who succeeded in it had to be evaluated by the system as completely reliable for the regime.
And what about his wife, who has been granted taxpayers’ money? Eva Pavlová (then Zelená) was an active member of the Communist Party (KSČ) from 1985. For her career, she chose to study at the Klement Gottwald Military-Political Academy (VPA KG) in Bratislava, which was the highest ideological educational institution of the Czechoslovak People’s Army. The goal of this academy was to prepare cadres for the role of political officers (so-called “politruks”), whose task was to ensure the ideological indoctrination of the troops, oversee the political reliability of soldiers in accordance with the KSČ line, and strengthen the alliance with the Soviet Union. Graduates were systematically trained to build resistance against Western imperialism represented by NATO countries.
The fact that Eva Pavlová entered this school confirms that she must have passed strict “cadre selection” and been evaluated by the regime as a politically conscious and loyal person. Her studies at this ideological school only ended with the Velvet Revolution in 1989; otherwise, she would have continued of her own free will.
I ask—why does anyone support these people? If someone once swore allegiance to a system based on the suppression of freedom, can they be trusted at all? The facts are damn well irrefutable, and I have doubts… if only because a person who was able to serve an aggressive totality out of conviction (or careerism) has the mental makeup to do the same again if the wind changes, or that with a person trained in the “Pávek” regime, you never know where the mask ends and sincerity begins. If a fundamental conflict of interest were to arise between the Czech Republic and another power, there is a risk with such a trained individual that his true actions would be driven by a motivation other than the one he declares to the public.
