KATHMANDU, April 19: The Mahasiddha Peace Sanctuary has announced a four-day bicycle journey from Kathmandu to Lumbini to advocate for global peace and harmony. During a press conference held on Wednesday, organizers revealed that 108 cyclists will participate in the event, which is scheduled to commence on April 28.
According to Devendra Basnet, the journey’s technical coordinator, the expedition will begin at the sacred site of Swayambhu in Kathmandu. The route will see participants travel through several major hubs, including Hetauda, Narayangadh, Kawasoti, Bardaghat, Bhumahi, and Bhairahawa. The journey is timed to conclude in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, on May 1, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti.
The final day of the event includes a series of spiritual and literary activities. A collective meditation program is scheduled for 7:00 AM on May 1. Following this, at 8:00 AM, the sanctuary will host the official release of The Path of Complete Liberation, a book authored by Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, the visionary and founder of the Universal Peace Sanctuary.
Speaking at the press conference, Rinpoche emphasized the urgency of the journey given the current state of global affairs. He noted that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have left the world in a state of concern, making the adherence to Buddhist philosophy and messages of non-violence more critical than ever. Rinpoche expressed his belief that this four-day cycling pilgrimage will serve as a symbolic and practical effort to foster peace.
Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche has been a prominent figure in the international community for nearly 40 years, dedicated to spreading Buddhist teachings and the message of universal peace. By organizing this event, the Mahasiddha Peace Sanctuary aims to remind the global community of the importance of inner tranquility and collective harmony.
The journey is expected to draw significant attention to the message of peace as the cyclists traverse the diverse landscapes of Nepal, ending at one of the world’s most significant spiritual landmarks.
